How to deal with broken vacuum breaker in faucet
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and to homeownership, but excited to start learning.
I realized today that when I turn on one of our outdoor faucets, a stream of water sprays up into the air. After doing some online research, I believe the issue is that vacuum breaker has a hole. I tried to remove it by unscrewing it (the dark blue circular part int he picture), but when I try to grab it with pliers, the plastic feels like it's going to break and I can't unscrew it.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? As it is now, I can't really use it since almost as much water sprays upward as comes out of the hose.

I just had one do this. The top cap screws out and you can reseat the valve. If I remember right the rubber goes up. Looks like you have lost the plastic cover for it. Don't think it will be a problem except may get dirt in it and have to be cleaned.

Thanks, pugsl, but it would be great if you could give me a slightly more in dept explanation since I'm new to this.
How do I screw the top cap? I tried with pliers, but it just won't grab the plastic; the plastic breaks. And when you say reseat the valve, what does that mean? Lastly, don't I need to buy a new part? As you can see, the white piece is punctured, so I need to replace it somehow.

Mine didn't have the white piece broken and I was able to use needle nose pliers points in upper slot to turn top. Mine came off pretty easy, Don't know if HD or Lowes have parts for yours. I did not need any. You may have to replace valve.
