Mystery Vents

My ranch style house is built on a slab. There are three black"vent pipes" around the outside perimeter. They are three or four inches from the foundation and stick up out of the ground about 6 inches. 2 are surrounded by sidewalk; the third by dirt. They have removable domed caps. Can anyone tell me what they are?

Interesting. Doesn't sound like a plumbing vent. I wonder if it is some sort of radon venting for a slab, totally wild guess. Do you have a radon fan anywhere?

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have septic or city sewer ? I'm thinking possible cleanout locations for sewer.

A quick Google shows radon is definitely a problem in the Edinboro area so I'd say radon vents.

If they where radon vents they would not be capped.

Joe, I took a stab and Googled "domed caps for vent pipes" and a whole bunch of vented caps came up. So agreed, we need to know if these are sealed caps or vented caps.

Also didn't see any vents being added to a Radon system anywhere and, in PA those would probably get covered with snow rather quickly.

Maybe the op will return and help.

Mystery Vents

May not be vents at all. Could be termite bait stations.

Could also be foundation drain cleanouts, especially if the basement has ever been waterproofed, as they often install them at that time. These are often in pairs a foot or two apart to allow cleaning in both directions from the cleanout point.

I'm leaning towards foundation drain cleanouts, or downspout drains which were never used?

Are they 4" pipe? Solid plastic (like ABS), or pipe with ridges on it?

I would say no to radon, as it should be exhausted somewhere away from people, typically above the roofline.
