How far must frost free faucet extend in?
Is there any code as to how far the anti freeze pipe must extend into a warm area for it to work?
They work by draining the water out of the pipe but that little connection point at the end where the pex connects always has pressurised water. If that gets cold then the metal pipe could rupture.
I have an 8" pipe for an 8" concrete wall and plan to insulate the pipe in the wall with foam.

Need at least a 12" to be able to connect it to the plumbing.
Always best to also install a ball valve so the water can be shut off for service so you do not have to shut the whole house off.
If it stays below freezing in that crawl space that foam is useless.

Not a crawl space, it's a heated entrance room.
Why 12"?
I can just connect a pex pipe to it with a 90 degree bend. Needs about 1" extra and even that connection can be almost flush against the concrete, no?
