1/4" Copper to Refrigerator for Water

Hi,

I recently purchased a new refrigerator with an ice dispenser. After removing the old 'fridge, I went to hook up the copper water line to the new 'fridge, but found that it has a different fitting:

The copper connected to the old 'fridge using a simple screw-in compression fitting. The new 'fridge has a connector with a little flange on it, and of course the copper tubing cannot "stretch" over it.

Any hints on what is required to hook this up?

Thanks,

Max

Welcome!

Please post the model number. I have hooked up a lot of appliances, sinks and filters and have never seen a compression fitting like this.
It looks like a special factory part (adapter) is required, but the model number will help.

There are appliance repair pros here so you will get more help.

See 3.7 and 3.8 in this document. Yours should be similar. You probably just need a 1/4" to 1/4" copper compression union to join your copper to a short length of pvc.

You should have the pvc and the fittings with the new unit, so you probably just need a union...

Thankyou both for your replies!

Model is LG GF-5D712SL.

Yes it came with plastic tubing and a fitting. Will investigate using a copper to plastic union, but in my book the less connections (points of failure) the better!

I trust the plastic push in connectors, they are used in water filter systems and I haven't seen a failure.
Do a search for John Guest fittings and the adapter you need should be available in your area.

Yes, they can be used on copper tube. I would only use them on 1/4" or 3/8".
They are not recommended for chrome plated tubing.
