The sink in my bathroom emits a sewer smell when used or when the toilet is flushed. A friend suggested that the drain may be linked directly to the toilet drain. No other sink smells! The trap does hold water but does not prevent the smell. Other than a major replumbing, is there an easy way around this?

Cool

Check the vent pipe on the roof above that bathroom for birdnest, leaves or other debris that may be partially clogging it.
Remove all that you can reach by hand, and flush the vent pipe with a water hose sprayer.
If that doesn't work, you will need to snake it with a plumber's snake that will reach all the way to the bottom of the stack, and then flush it.
You also may want to check the overflow hole on the sink to see if any odor is coming from it. Pour or spray diluted bleach into it if it is.
Good Luck!
Mike
