Dropping 2" Gas line to usable size

I was wondering what kind of regulator I would need to take my 2 inch gas line coming into my house and drop it down safetly to 1 inch / 3/4" size?

The gas company should already have the correct regulator at the meter. Pressure doesn't need to be reduced to use smaller pipe unless required by the equipment the gas is supplied to. Gas piping is not DIY. You need a licensed plumber or gas fitter.

As Ray stated, reducing the line size doesn't matter, as long as you're providing the appliance enough volume of gas.

That said, the pressure is more important. If your meter is set up as a standard residence, a pressure reducer isn't usually required. But, there are always exceptions based on certain setups.

What exactly are you trying to do? Are you confident in your plumbing capabilities to do gas piping work?

I have a plumber doing it but he said he'd recommend a reducer to avoid sudden bursts going into the equipment and possibly ruining them. I was just wondering if they are truly necessary in order to protect my equipment and have that extra piece of mind or if it's just throwing money out of the window. The gas lines are going to be a pretty short run except for two which may go about 60-75 feet to various tankless water heaters. The rest of the equipment will be about 15 feet away from the meter.
