Do I need a plumber for this?

I had a plumber do some piping to allow me to hook up to a water softener (months ago). He left it like this ... but .. as far as I can see I either need a tool or to call him back .. in order to hook up my flex lines from the softener. Is there a way I can make a connection here without a tool .. or calling him back? I just had a HVAC guy come in to extend a copper pipe 8 feet and then through the floor and attach a shut off for our gas stove. Their website said they did hot water heaters so I figured he could do this plumbing. He doesn't mess with those fittings. So $500 for a freaken shut off and now I need to get someone else in to do this ... I am hoping not. Feedback appreciated. In WI.Name: Plumbing fitting.jpg

If your hose does not attach now... you will need to do something to make it attach. Are you capable of doing that work? If not then yes you will need to call a plumber. You have not shown or told us what your hose is or what threads are on the end so we can't tell you what you will need.

Without a tool? We have self driving cars but no self pipe connectors yet. I can't wait for that!

That valve has ProPress connections. Yes, it takes a special tool to make the connection. Very few handymen will have a ProPress tool and many plumbers will not have it either.

You could cut that valve out and solder in a more conventional valve. Or you could cut it out and install a "Sharkbite" valve using almost no tools at all.

Okay so without the tool, I can't carry on and put a fitting to connect a flex pipe? Flex pipe is just a 1 inch screw on thingee which I don't even have yet. I know I can just cut this shut off .. off.. and then install another shut off and fittings to connect the flex but ... I was hoping there would be a way to tie into this one .. without propress tools or plumber.

You are welcome. ProPress is great for industry because it installs so fast but for homeowner's it is terrible.
