What kind of pipe is this?
Hi
I have this pipe in bathroom after digging thru the tub drain area. It was connected with a J pipe from tub to this. It is rotten already and I suspect this was a shower floor drain but want to see if some can help me confirm.
And how do I open the top? I did not see any nuts around it.....
Thanks in advance.

To me it looks like a cast-iron hub with an adapter (or something) cemented into it. Normally a cast iron hub would be filled with oakum & lead, but it looks white in the image.
You would need to either carefully clean the hub to re-use it (with a donut) or dig back further and cut off the hub and use a transition coupling to change to some other pipe, most likely plastic. The pipe may have raised lettering that would have to be ground off.
If it is cement, perhaps a drill with a masonry bit would clean the hub w/o damage. And the poster above is correct -- you would run a 2" drain for a shower.
