Quick question about pressurized pipes

I was fixing our kitchen sink yesterday and to do so I used the shut off valve to cut off water to the house. I got me thinking. We have two showers and my wife and I always use the same one. We haven't used the other in about 5 years. Does it do any harm to the pipes to not be opened up for a long period of time? Should I go to the other shower every once in a while and just run it every so often?

It may seem like a silly question, but I had never thought about it before. Thanks for any answer.

The water would still be ok. The exercise for the faucet is good for the rubber parts.
A little water use keeps the traps filled and clean too.

If the trap dries out you can get sewer fumes.
