release water pressure in vacation condo after shutting off water?
Hello,
Is it beneficial to release the pressure in the hot and cold water lines after shutting off the water in a vacation home? It is typically vacant for around a month at a time.
I ahve been turning both the hot and cold faucets open for a couple seconds after shutting off the main shutoff. My thinking is that the pipes and water heater are not sitting pressurized for an extended period.
Thanks
Dave

It certainly doesn't hurt to relieve the pressure on the system. It will be most useful for washing machine pipes which typically don't like being pressurized for years at a time. The rest of your plumbing system though doesn't really care. Copper/PEX/CPVC is designed to last for decades under pressure and have no issue.
Regardless, make sure you flush the system to get out any 'old' water regardless.
