A few more copper/steel pipe questions...

In my last house they used thick walled-but somewhat flexible 1/2" copper (with standard sweat joints) to make it easier to install the replacement copper water lines (i.e. replacing the old steel pipes with copper). Is this type of flexible copper a good choice if it facilitates installation?

ALSO> Is it true that 1/2" copper (which is easier to install) has a similar flow rate to 3/4" steel or should I try to replace 3/4" steel with 3/4" copper (I don't know if 3/4" comes in a flexible form)?

Finally> Any strong preferences for "L" or "M" (I think that's right) copper piping?

The answer to your first question is YES.
The answer to your second question is NO. You should replace like-size with like-size in your system. It has to do with volume being delivered and increasing the pressure as you step it down nearer the fixtures (sort of like squeezing the end of a water hose).
Copper "L" pipe is Medium weight and copper "M" pipe is Light weight (go figure...that's ANOTHER reason that I'm not a pro plumber...LOL). "K" is heavy duty (usually for outdoors or commercial).
Check with your local Building Inspector for residential code requirements in your area.
"M" is usually o.k. for residential down here in the land of cotton, but in some locales, especially in the far frozen north, code may require it all to be "L".

Another thought about copper:
If what you mean by flexible copper is the kind that comes in the rolls known as soft copper it is not a good choice. for your installation.
It is great for underground copper installations because it avoids using fittings. Above ground it is hard to roll out and has a tendecy to oval making fittings hard to get on. I would much rather fit up ridgid copper in the lengths and cut it and add the fittings.
