Need advice on replacing inside main shutoff
Since I'm about to replace my water heater anyway, figured it's a good time to replace the mess of two old shutoff valves with a new ball valve. So, what's the best way to attack this, parts-wise? I'll need to come off the threaded pipe that's attached to the meter (not sure what size thread that is) with an elbow, and then replace the vertical section with the old valves, adding the new ball valve. I'm planning on using a sweat-type ball valve, but not sure how to handle the elbow part above it. Thanks for your suggestions.

Is there another valve on the other side of the meter? Is the lower valve on right side of the meter for a sprinkler system? How many valves do you want to replace?

Thanks for your response, shortylong. The lower valve was, I'm guessing, the original one. I already completed the replacement. Had to use Sharkbite valve, because the main shutoff at the curb wouldn't completely stop the dripping. I had been warned that might happen. There is a gate valve on the other side of the meter, before the water heater.
