Moen cartridge removal
I've got the new cartridge, which came with the white plastic tool to loosen it up. No go.
I bought the Moen cartridge removal tool. Took shower faucet apart. Tried to ONLY twist the cartridge with this tool, to see if it would turn. No go. I didn't screw the small screw in, or start turning the larger bolt on the tool. Didn't want to go that far and just have the internal parts of the cartridge come out. Then I'm screwed, and that's what I'm afraid of happening.
Question is.....does the 104421 Moen cartridge removal tool prevent the internal parts from coming out of the plastic cartridge?? What are the chances of ONLY the internals coming out, using the tool?? Thanks for any help.

I quite often find the little plastic tool that comes with Moen cartridges to be useless. Old cartridges can be really stuck in place and need a tool made of metal. Even then it sometimes takes some wiggling, fussing and cursing to get them to break free. Just make sure you first remove the wire retainer clip.
No, the cartridge removal tool does not prevent anything from falling out. It just pulls the cartridge straight out of the faucet body. Don't worry. The cartridge is pretty much everything.
Before installing the new cartridge stick your finger inside the valve body to make sure the walls are nice and smooth and there is no sediment inside and there is no ring of built up minerals.
