Zone Valve Upside Down Vertical

Can a zone valve be installed upside down vertically? The instructions say "The valve can be mounted in any position on a vertical line".

Here's a pic of them installed upside down but wanted to make sure.

I'm no pro, but jeez, it's a valve. I'm surprised it can't be horizontal. Is it a gravity feed system of some sort? Of course it can be upside down, but are you sure it's not just the cover? Might also be just for airflow for cooling or something?
