How to cut new thread in PVC elbow, Leak in threaded PVC plug
I have a leak in a threaded PVC plug with a 1/2" thread. The plug is in a 2" diameter 90 degree PVC elbow in a pool skimmer line (See attached pictures).
The existing thread in the elbow has play and the plug can't be tighten.
One way to fix it would be to enlarge the 1/2" threaded hole to 3/4" and use a 3/4" plug. Can anyone tell me how to drill a larger threaded hole? I don't know what tool I would need to do that.
Are there any other ways of fixing this leak?
Thanks

Thank you for your suggestion. I am not sure it will work with the play it has, but I will try before looking at more complicated options.

Try a flat rubber washer that fits tightly over the threads of the plug, and use lots of teflon tape on the plug threads.

Drill out the 1/2 inch hole
Hi,
If you want to drill out the existing 1/2 inch hole and increase the size to 3/4 inch, drill the hole out with a 29/32 inch bit, then cut new threads with a 3/4 inch 14 pipe tap. Make sure there is enough PVC in the side of the pipe for the new threads. Use soap water as a lubricant while performing these procedures. To guarantee no leaks when installing new plug, use teflon tape and a good pipe dope. Good luck with your project.

Never seen that type of fitting, looks home made.
Just cut it out and put in a new Tee, bush it down to the correct size and do it right.
