Water leak: trying to figure out what this is

Long story short, I live in an apartment, they found a leak behind the wall and I'm trying to figure out what this is. I'm trying to cover my bases especially with having a 4 year old and the possibility of mold. Is this some sort of insulation? Build up? Normal?

Hard to tell from the pics but I don't see any insulation..... and not really any mold either. Looks like wet wood in the second picture.

I agree, it doesn't look like mold... They should be removing any wet drywall, and it's always a good idea to spray any previously wet areas with a diluted bleach solution to help kill anything that may have started growing.

As long as they get it fixed up and stop the leak, you should be fine. While they should be fixing/cleaning anything that was wet, mold won't grow where there isn't moisture. So once the leak is fixed, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.
