Re-concreting around PVC pipe

I had a leak in a pvc irrigation pipe under concrete. I've cut open the concrete and repaired the pipe. When it comes to pouring concrete again to fix the hole, what is the best practice? This pvc pipe is past the shut off valve and runs through about 3" of concrete to the pipe out to the yard. The break was at the 90 degree elbow. I do not know why this broke and it could have been broken for several years since I wasn't in the house at that time.

Can concrete be poured right up to the pipe? What about the concrete causing damage or leaching the pipe? The initial pipe had concrete poured around it, but I'm wondering if that could have caused the break.

Pouring concrete over a PVC pipe will not cause any issues, if your going under a walk way there really isnt anything else you can do. If you put in a sleeve for the pipe and it broke you would still have to tear it up.

Pour away!

Concrete won't affect the PVC pipe at all, but my concern would be expansion and contraction of the pipe. If the pipe is in soil, it has some flex as it expands and contracts with the seasons. With a 90 deg fitting embedded in concrete, there's nowhere for that flex to go.

Are you able to bury the pipe a few inches below the concrete? Even in the gravel may provide just enough flexibility to reduce the possibility of cracking.

The pipe and elbow are about 4" below the concrete in soil. We live in southern California, so not much temperature change from season to season. The pipe is on a walkway, but it isn't used much and the pipe is only a few inches away from foundation. Guess I'll just repour concrete like it was. Thanks
