P-Trap slipping off disposer elbow
I had to install a new disposal over the weekend so I bought exactly what was installed previously to make it easy (Insinkerator Badger.) The installation went fine but now the p-trap keeps slipping down off the disposer elbow. Do I need to use PVC glue to stick them together? There was no glue or anything on the old one - I unscrewed the top of the p-trap connection and pulled the disposer elbow right out.
This seems like such a simple thing that I'm missing something really basic on.

This is a similar setup with a clearer photo: http://www.nettally.com/palmk/DoubleSinkDrain.jpg
What am I missing here?

I can see from the picture that your trap is low. The disposer elbow is probably just barely inside the top of the trap, it needs inserted an inch or so.
You need a 6" extension like this:

To install the extension you need to measure or estimate by holding it beside the discharge elbow.
I'm estimating you need to cut about 1" or more off the disposer ell and about 3" off the new extension.
The picture is a vanity but it shows an extension being used, same thing:

It actually has an extension, I should have included a better picture of the connection. The end of the disposal elbow is at least an inch down inside the extension but there's just not enough friction to hold the p-trap in place. It ends up sliding off the elbow.
I didn't change anything myself - this is what the plumbing looked like when we moved in three years ago and I don't think anything was done to it after the house was built in 2006.

Edit: And now that I went back to look at it one more time I think I had the compression ring in there wrong. I took the end of the p-trap extension off the disposer elbow to take an additional photo and when I installed it again it was much tighter.
Thanks for the help.

Drain and traps must be perfectly plumb. Hand tighten firmly and maybe a quarter turn more. Replace the slip joint washer as indicated by Xsleeper. If it's the lest bit damaged it won't seal. Are you using the right size slip joint washer. Often the kits come with two sizes. One for 1 1/4 and one for 1 1/2 size drain pipe. Bathrooms usually use 1 1/4 while kitchen use 1 1/2.
