Running waste pipe outside from 2nd floor in cold NY?
I am putting a new bathroom in an upstairs room, can I run the waste pipe outside (with vent extension) or should I keep it inside and insulated, above an unheated crawl space to stop ice build up in winter? Outside and down the wall then back into the basement to the existing basement line and out to septic would be much simpler than keeping it inside within a duct and within an insulated raised floor space (crawl space not connected to basement).
Thanks
Thanks

Upstate farmhouse - not too worried...
but re your "FWIW", there would be a 90 at the bottom which I guess could slowly build up with ice..

I have a couple rental houses where the drain for the kitchen sink is run outside and even down here in NC it freezes every 5-8 years. It doesn't happen normally but if the faucet leaks or someone doesn't close it all the way a slow trickle of water will build up ice and freeze it solid.

I wouldn't trust a drain line outside in NY. Vents are ok, but even so, they can still freeze pretty easily when outside.
I would definitely figure out how to get the drain inside the house.
