Check Valve for drip irrigation system hooked up to hose bib?
We are looking to hook up a drip irrigation system to a hose bib with a timer. Some of the drip outlets will be uphill from the hose bib and some will be downhill. Can we simply use a Check Valve installed after the timer for back flow prevention?

Unless it's some priority for you...or required by ordinance...when the timer shuts off the flow (closes the valve), any pressure from the uphill side will drain to the furthest downhill...won't it? Or do drip irrigation heads require a certain pressure to work?
If you decide you need one, just put a backflow preventer (vacuum breaker) on the hose bib, then the timer. They run about $5.50 at Home Depot.

I don't know WTH I was thinking, since the timer valve would be AFTER the vacuum breaker, the way I suggested. I was also assuming that the timer is the type that connects to the hose bib and has a hose thread output, when it could be completely different. If it does have a hose thread output, put the vacuum breaker there, then connect the irrigation to the breaker.
