Drain waste vent pipe through roof for bathrooms?

Hello everyone!

Newbie homeowner trying to understand the pipes through the attic/roof. There is one pipe that I know is for the bathroom but that pipe doesn't go through the roof- it only escapes through the attic. Is this harmful? Also would love to know what type of vents are best, some have chemicals in them and I don't want it to be harmful overtime.

Some people used to vent the bathroom exhaust fan into the attic. That is not a good practice, so if that is what it is, it should be vented out the roof. (4" roof louver).

Your waste vent pipes should definitely also be vented out the roof.

How large is the vent pipe you mention and what is it made of?

Agreed - there really shouldn't be anything venting into the attic. Most attics have enough ventilation issues just keeping themselves vented without having bathroom humidity or sewer gases being vented up there too.

Pictures can help. Solid pipes are likely plumbing. Flexible pipes are likely bathroom vents. But that's not a hard rule.
