Hi, I was wondering if someone can help me. I need to have replaced a natural gas regulator valve for a BBQ gas grill. The regulator is a Maxitrol RV20L.
In the picture attached, I have circled the fittings that I need help identifying. Secondly, is it possible to tell whether this is a 1/4" or 3/8" regulator by just looking at the picture? For certain reasons, I cannot remove the regulator at this time.
Finally, is this a fairly easy job for a novice? I've connected natural gas stoves before, but is there anything special I need to know when replacing a regulator valve?
Many Thanks!

RV-20L is the regulator type. 1/4" or 3/8" after the part number specifies pipe connection size.
Looking at your picture... that appears to be the 3/8" version. I'd expect the 3/8 size on a BBQ. I could be wrong. Pictures are deceiving.
The fitting on the left is a flared connector. Looks like 3/8" flared connector.
The fitting on the right is a reducer. Possibly 3/8" to 1/4".
You just need the regulator. Those parts can be reused on the new one.

Hi, Thanks for your fast reply. To reuse those parts, I assume I would need to clean the threads with a pipe cleaner and then use yellow gas pipe tape? I shouldn't use tape on the gas supply line connection (left side), right?

You can use yellow gas line tape or my preferred.... joint compound. Only the pipe threads get covered. That would mean where the flare fitting screws into the reg. and both sides at the reducer.
