We installed a brand new toilet, replacing the old one. The new one is pressure release toilet. It flushes fine and fills the bowl. But soon after the water level in the bowl drops from about 2 1/2 inches to 1 inch. The wax ring was replaced with a new ring, and the area cleaned. What could be the problem? Could it be a tank leak or bowl leak? Should we return the toilet?

It is not a tank leak, that would add water to the bowl. It may be a bowl leak, or it could be a plugged vent line.

Did you have this problem with the old toilet? Why did you replace it?

Two ways water can drain out of the bowl, a bowl leak, or being syphoned, by a plugged vent.

Check the vent on the roof for leaves, branches, bird's nests and remove all you can. Then run a hose with a high pressure nozzle down the vent to make sure it is clear.
