No sewer clean out. Plumber knocked hole
Hello!
we had a clog in our sewer line. The plummer came out to root out the sewer line, however, we did not have a sewer clean out valve. He just cut a hole in the line and told us to install a clean out valve ourselves.
since that time, we have had standing water in the yard. We realize that the hole in the sewer line is to blame. Besides installing the clean out valve, is there anything else that should be done.
we are first time homeowners of a 100 year old house, and have very, very little knowledge about home repair.
thank you for any advice- suggestions you can provide!

Get a different plumber. If he just bashed a hold in the drain line and told you to install a clean out then they are not a very good plumber.
The standing water in your yard is likely not the cause of the hole in the pipe... sorta. If the drain line is clear then water should always drain out it and no water would pool in your yard. If the drain line again became clogged then the hole in the pipe is the path of least resistance and the poo water flows out onto the ground.
For a clean out you need a series of fittings. No valve. It's just a proper way of allowing access to the drain pipe. Usually you extend it to the surface with pipe and install a cap so the line can be snaked in the future without having to do any digging.

I doubt the plumber you hierd is a legit licensed plumbed. Dont always go with the cheapest guy...there usually hacks. No real plumber would smash a hole in the pipe to eel it an walk away left like that. Pay for a proffesional. Theres a reason why our education takes 5 years minimum.

I think you definitely need to get a plumber out who has a camera snake. If it's pooling, you likely have more of an issue than just the hole in the pipe. Likely, if he just made a hole, it's terra cotta pipe, which in most places is nearing or has reached the end of its lifespan.
Of course, it's just a guess - pictures would help!
