Water from spout and shower
Hi all,
i have a kohler rite temp newly installed that sprays water from the shower head at the same time as the spout.
this didn’t happen before I put the shower head on
could it be the slow flow CALIFORNIA shower head?
or the rite temp valve?
or is it something I screwed up like a blockage in the copper pipe?
i flushed the lines well after installation and before installing the trim...
any help?

Diverter valve defective? Call Kohler.
What is the center distance from the centerline of the tub faucet spout to the centerline of the shower outlet goose-neck? On some brands a minimum distance must be maintained to avoid this very problem.

How much water sprays out of each? Is it equal flow or just a dribble?
There are different types of the faucet you mention but with some the diverter relies on the weight of water above to help it seal. Like Norm said, too little height between the faucet and shower head can cause it to not seal well. Or, it's simply a bad diverter. Kohler is very good about product support and will help you over the phone and send you parts for free.

Great, thanks everyone, guess I’ll have to call the tech support.
the centerline between nipple and and shower digit is 59”.
9” between nipple and valve. When researching those dimensions, that seemed the most reasonable and I didn’t find any minimum specs from kohler that were close to that...

Did you make any changes to the spout connection when you installed the new shower head?
When water is coming out of both spout and shower, which selection position is the diverter in?

The diverted is a pull type in the spout.
when I replaced the old valve, the position was changed because it’s a different model but only slightly and I did raise the shower head about 8 inches from the old position.
