septic odor
Mark Jr is a truck driver so he's not home a lot. This last time he was gone 2-3 weeks and came home to a terrible odor in his mobile home. He thought [and I agreed] he had a dead mouse somewhere. No dead critters, the odor was coming from his kitchen sink drain. Can the water in the p trap evaporate in that period of time? He poured some bleach down the drain and let it set for a little bit and all is good now.

Assuming everything in the trailer is done to code I would say yes if the temperature inside was high. In a regular house it may take 2 months plus to lose trap seal. Also I’ve seen in my own home the water level in the toilet bowls go down on very windy days. Hope this helps.

He doesn't turn the AC off when he's out of town but the thermostat was turned up to 82 degrees. He's had his trailer for a little over 3 yrs but this is the first time that happened. Like many older trailers his doesn't have plumbing vents thru the roof although somewhere along the line a studor vent was added under the kitchen sink.

At least it sounds like he successfully identified the source of the odor,
Maybe the next time he leaves for an extended period in the summer, he should consider pouring a cup of propylene glycol (food grade antifreeze) into that trap and it won't evaporate as fast water ?
