Question

I have a tub on the 2nd floor that leaks through the ceiling to the 1st floor. This happened 6 months ago and the plumber couldn't find a leak. I finally sprayed the grout with sealant and re-caulked. My house is only 8 years old, is this normal for the grout to have to be resealed or is there another problem? I'm only assuming this is the cause of the leak this time. Also, how often does a tub need to be caulked?

common tricky areas that most commonly leak on a tub would
be the overflow, bath shoe ,or water is getting behind the escutchions around the knobs. does it leak after a bath or a shower.take water in a cup and pour around the escutchions
where they meet the tile as well as the overflow.you may want to fill your tub to check the overflow. in the future for best recaulking results remove every particle of old caulk around the tub until you hane a clean dry gap.fill the tub with water then recaulk, this will allow for pre expansion allowing the caulk joint to last longer.
