I was a plumber all my life always had to wait til it thawed out???
Now i am older and have -maybe ;missed somethings that work. Here is my problem. anything you can think of please lmk
I have a trap that is think frozen,The trap is subject to cold wind coming around corner of the garage. This trap is about 12" down....short piece of 3"PVC stuck in the trap /clean out cap 15" at most from this trap.to ground level. I knew i shoulda put in a ""y" cleanout. .The bathroom is about 18 feet away- inside the garage.I have always covered this trap in winter.3/4 waferboard.Forgot this this year. To old to dig it up and correct it.plunge floor drain and the water goes up and down the vent stack......as it should. Its nothing but ice in the trap. I filled it up with Rock salt ,and just isn't working. Its a pia always has been. The temp goes up i will be home free.I know noone has a cure probably~but thought maybe some of you guys might have a "home brewed" way of curing this.If not at least we tried.
thanks much for ANY tips bob s

Heat would be the best. It doesn't have to be particularly hot to work. A garden hose or jetter/pressure washer snaked up the drain to the ice should do the trick. It is best to work from the downstream side so all the water you put into the pipe has somewhere to go.

Why in the world is there a buried trap in the first place? Everything in a bathroom has its own trap and double traps aren't code. And why isn't it buried below frost?
Boiling water... then siphon water out with a foot pump. Then more boiling water.... repeat.
Next year, drop in a submersible tank heater before it gets cold.
