drain for washing machine below sewer line

I have a 70 inch ceiling in my Cellar. I want to install a washing machine down there I have a 4 inch pvc line near the spot I want it placed. There is currently a p trap cut off already from the previous owner who ran the stand-alone pipes upstairs I can tie into that trap but how do I hook it up do I need to install check valve As long as it works I'm OK with it It doesn't have to be up to code but as long as it's working and won't flood my Cellar that will be fine thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums.

That can't really be answered without seeing a picture of what you have.
A check valve is not used in a drain system and especially not on a washing machine drain line.
You cannot connect to that line if there is a toilet draining into it.
How-to-insert-pictures.
