Water meter fitting: tell me this is normal...

Please see attached pics. This is my water main (coming in from the street) and water meter. Water flow goes up in the pics. I've never noticed this "crack" on a water meter fitting before.
My guess is that it is normal since the "crack" appears to be symmetrical all the way around the fitting.
You can (mostly) ignore all the water/droplets on the pipes and fittings. It's been 85 degrees with 85% humidity the last couple days. Lots of condensation on the pipes.

Please Tell Me This is Normal...
I'd expect that fitting to be leaking. I'm guessing that the two copper pipes are bent in shape and the cracked piece is just to hold them together.

I'd bet at some point that line froze causing the crack.
It needs to be replaced ASAP!
