re circulation hot water

Just moved into a new to me house. Hot water one end of house and shower at other end. Will a gravity type re-circulation system work going through attic? Tap into hot water near shower and than run it to drain of tank?

What size pipe and elevation change would be helpful.

Have not checked into this yet. Just moved into house start of this week and am planning a bathroom remodel so pipe sizes can be adjusted. 8 ft ceilings and probably a 4 fool rise.

What type of water heater? Electric or gas?

I would get nothing but an on demand unit. This you can use with recirc line. Put at the water heater.

I would deep 6 the motion sensor and wireless transmitter and hard wire that door bell button somewhere near the vanity.

Electric water heater. Starting to look into pumps but wanted to see if passive system would work Just a guess but I think about 40 feet from heater.

Hi, About 10 years ago I replumbed my house in the attic. Water heater on one end and deep sink and washer on the other end. About 40 feet. I connected the return at the end of the hot water line over the deep sink to the drain on the hot water heater.I put shut off valves on each end the return line in case I wanted to shut it off.A little gravity and convection were involved. Long story short it works great. No pump.

My own house has a similar rise (hardly any) and the hot water recirculation works by convection only. When I pipe a recirc, I'll add two valves in case it does need a pump, but see if it'll work by convection first. Mine didn't need a pump.

You would have to remove the heat traps in the nipples
