Severe Banging at turn on - Alternate Tap maybe?
Folks,
Air Locks every morning in this outside tap, see pic. I'm sure it is air as I attached a hose bib to the hose this morning and then turned the tap on.....no banging...then when I pulled the trigger, nothing but air for one to two seconds then water, no banging.
Rather than try and chase this down would a different style of tap fix this issue? I'm thinking of maybe a 'gate' tap? The one with the stalk as the water control?
I put this tap on a few years ago so I'm confident I can this tapo off without too much trouble.
I don't have the issues with any other taps and once its done its thing in the morning then it's ok...until the next morning.

If that is a frost free bib..... the actual shut off point is inside the house. That means you may get a second or two of air before you get water. When you shut that faucet off..... the stem drains of water. This is exactly how a frost free bib works.
If you have an air hammer problem..... check for excessively high house water pressure or install a water hammer device on that faucet.

I am concerned seeing a crazy mass of insulation AND a hose attached to the spigot. That can be a recipe for disaster in cold weather.

Thank you folks. I think I'm going to try changing the tap. My theory on air gushing out of the hose bib isn't consistent. It is not a freeze style tap. It's a common or garden cheap one from Lowes. I'm wondering if there is a valve or seal inside the tap that is sticking. I'll try a new tap, I have one, the problem is it's the exact same brand as the one that is on, and then see where I go from there.
The hose is disconnected from the tap if we have a freeze coming up, but in Houston those are few and far between.
Thanks

Just an FYI for the amateurs. I took that crappy 'screw type' of tap off and replaced it with a quarter turn equivalent tap. Problem is fixed.
