Packing washer issues
Hi.
I rebuilt my two exterior frost-proof faucets. Now the one leaks big-time when a hose is attached. Packing material, I'm sure... Because the old packing washer is all compressed at the time of removal, I didn't know what size replacement to get. So I settled on something big enough to fit over the stem, and small enough to fit in the cavity. Then tightened the nut to a level I thought would be sufficient. No good.
Should I just use packing cord instead, and tighten the snot out of it?

I generally use packing cord and you don't have to go very tight. Just enough to stop the water. If you over tighten it can be difficult to turn the handle.
