Shower valve not working.

It was working but for some reason it had gotten tight recently, so I took it out to see what's wrong. Now the valve is not working, I can't change the water volume, or water temperature. I also tried to turn the valve with a wrench, but it still didn't work.

How can I fix it, do I need a new valve?

Provide brand and model number. Most likely it needs a new cartridge.

You probably put the cartridge back in incorrectly. Try removing it and put it in the other way. It looks like it might be a Moen faucet, if so there are a lot of pictures and videos that show how to remove and install the cartridge.

I got a free cartridge replace at home depot. It turns out the cartridge is stuck, and when the valve stem is rotating; the cartridge is not rotating with it.

I wanna ask, how can the valve stem rotate by itself without rotating the whole cartridge along with it.

Internal parts are corroded out or stripped.
