Cool

I doubt that you have a lead main water feed. It is galvanized steel.
Use two wraps of teflon tape on all male threads (clockwise only).
Since you have two different types of metal you will need a di-electric union to prevent electrolysis corrosion.
Good Luck!

Cool

IF you have a lead water supply pipe, you should replace it immediately.
Check with your local Health Department or call the US EPA at 1-800-424-LEAD regarding lead hazards or 1-800-426-4791 about the dangers of lead in drinking water.
Good Luck!
