Bonding ABS to Cast Iron?
I first posted this as an EPDM roof leak problem, but now know exactly where the leak is. The small deck above the ceiling damaged by water has a floor drain. The basket/screen assembly is cast iron with a 2" ABS street ell stuck into it on the bottom. The leak is between the CI and ABS. We can see little rivulets of water running on the outside of the street ell, so however these dissimilar materials were assembled, it is leaking now. This house was built in 1977. Is there any proper method of bonding ABS to CI?

I'm electronically challenged at 75, so don't know about a photo. This is what should be a typical glue joint with the male end of the ABS street ell going inside the CI female of the strainer casting. I verified iron with a magnet. I have never seen this in all of my years.

Since it is a drain with little pressure involved, I would try a sealing tape like RustoLeum Leak Seal or a similar product. Even wrapping tightly with duct tape might work.

I would use a transition coupling in that case. Something like a Mission coupling:
