P Trap Location Question

P Trap Location Question

I’m installing a new tub and need to move the drain about a 24 for the new tub. One plumber said I needed to move the P trap so it’s directly under the drain. Another plumber said we could just run a extension to the existing P trap. I live in TN. Any idea what’s code? I

I've never seen a trap installed anywhere other than directly under the tub. I don't think you can install it feet away. And even if you could, I'm not sure you'd want to as I think you'd be more likely to see clogs and it would become a pain to snake it.

I don't have a code reference to prove one way or the other.
