how much solder & flux

So, I'm gonna sweat some lead free ball valves, (6) 3/4 inch and (7) 1/2 inch. Do you think a 1 pound spool of solder and an 8 oz can of flux are enough?

The other thing that i was taught, how much solder do i use because some people over solder. What works for me is, if it is a 1/2 inch pipe i use 1/2 inch of solder, 3/4 inch pipe 3/4 inch solder and so on.

Practice makes perfect. If you're new to this, then most likely you'll over solder and even have heavy drips. But that is not a problem. The important this is not t wipe off over solder. Common mistake by many. Let it cool by itself. If disturbed you'll get "cold" solder. This is more critical in electrical work, but in plumbing it can cause a weak joint and eventual failure.

Ball valve brands

Hi, A gate valve in my hot water heating system is starting to drip. All of the valves are at least 40 years old, so I’m considering replacing them all (about 10) with ball valves. I see Efield branded valves on Amazon for substantially less cost than the brands at Lowes or Home Depot. They’re labeled 600 WOG. Is brand name that important with such valves? Thanks.

Running PEX through Drywall

I am finishing a room in my basement and do not want to see the water softener outlet and drain lines when I am done. I would like to run the two PEX lines (3/4" and 1/2") through the drywall, between the studs, and up into the joists. I have used the white plumbing boxes for laundry and sink hook-ups, but wasn't sure how to cleanly run these particular lines through the drywall with a clean, finished result. Do they make such a box, collar, fitting, etc? Thanks for the help!
