Hi all, I hope everybody is well! I am new to plumbing, but I am a DIYer in all other areas, so I think I can succeed in completing this project: I want to bring a hot water line to my garage . Let's start by providing you with some information on how the current cold water line runs to the garage. Everything is in the basement, the basement and the garage, share a concrete wall. The cold water line is all copper from the water tank, pretty long, I would say 40'. The good thing is that I have a drop ceiling in the basement, so I have access to the copper pipes. However, I never had any issues with the line you see in the picture. The first thing I want to do is to have clear ideas on the route the pipe should follow to get next to the existing one. My question: [list] [*]Could I use a PEX instead of the copper one? I think it would make things much easier because I do not need to solder, saving me some time. [*]Once I get to the concrete wall, I assume I have to get the line on the other site, therefore drill a hole, so that I have two separated pipes, one for cold and the other for hot water, am I correct? Unless you suggest alternatives. [*]Tap: which one? I typically use a hose and a connector, but I want to be able to adjust the water temperature, but I have no idea which kind of taps are on the market for this kind of application. Folks, Air Locks every morning in this outside tap, see pic. I'm sure it is air as I attached a hose bib to the hose this morning and then turned the tap on.....no banging...then when I pulled the trigger, nothing but air for one to two seconds then water, no banging. Rather than try and chase this down would a different style of tap fix this issue? I'm thinking of maybe a 'gate' tap? The one with the stalk as the water control? I put this tap on a few years ago so I'm confident I can this tapo off without too much trouble. I don't have the issues with any other taps and once its done its thing in the morning then it's ok...until the next morning.
