"Singing" pipes

Live on the first floor of a 3 family and the copper pipes in the basement are "singing". Stops for a couple seconds when water turned on, but then starts again. At times loud, others softer, but always the noise. Caused by humidity? Air?

On an unrelated plumbing note, why would it be that I have a hard time getting COLD water out of the tap in the bathroom? I get cold water for a minute or so then it turns lukewarm. Not a problem in the shower, or the kitchen tap.

Thanks,
D

Cool

I'm not a pro plumber, but your first problem may be due to high water pressure.
If you're on a public water supply, you (and/or the neighbors) may have a Pressure Reducing Valve that needs adjustment, repair or replacement.
Your second problem may be due to a faulty seal in a single-handle faucet. What type of faucet do you have?

Okay. Where would this valve be to check out whether it needs replacing or not?

Yes, I do have a single faucet on that sink. How do I fix it? Is is too tricky to handle myself?
