toilet won't fill after loud pop
I have an American Standard dual flush toilet, maybe six or seven years old. I think I replaced one of the valves a couple of years after I installed it. It's been working fine since, but my daughter said that when she flushed it, there was a loud pop, and we noticed the tank and bowl won't fill. Is this just the fill valve gone bad? I've never had one pop and go completely out with no warning before!

Have you taken the lid off the tank and looked inside? The hose might have popped off of the fill valve. Its supposed to be clipped onto / spraying down the hollow neck.

Well if there is no water in the tank and no water running... then yeah its time for a new fill valve.

Update: the tank filled a little later when we weren't watching. I don't know how long it took before it did this. We went back in to check and it had water in the tank. So we tried the flush again. The same pop/thump sound happened at the beginning of the flush. Otherwise, the toilet flushed and filled normally. So I'm wondering if this is related: yesterday, I did an unrelated repair to an outdoor faucet close by and had to turn the water off and flush out the pipes in this end of the house. Could this be related?

Yes, you had air in the line. That was the bang you heard. It should work normally once all the air is purged through use.
