Toilet flange

I am renovating my lower bath ( on concrete floor) and the cast iron flange has corroded.
I was planning to cut it and snug fit a PVC Flange inside the cast iron pipe

Talked to a plumber I know and he said it need to be iron flange sealed with molten lead.

I am thinking using epoxy glue ( the liquid weld type) around the PVC flange and insert it inside cast iron pipe.

Is it a bad idea ? Is the plumber right, or just selling his business ( molten lead means I sure need a plumber)

Yes, using epoxy is a bad idea. Which method you need depends on what you have which we can't see. Keep in mind that the toilet mounts to the flange so it muse be secure and strong enough to hold the toilet in place. If you search for "replace cast iron toilet flange" you'll see some of your options.

Thanks much! I will surely screw the flange to the floor, buy the idea of epoxy is just to seal any gap between the flange and the pipe.

I am planning to use Oatley PVC flange.

The concern from plumber is, if the drain backs up, it will leak through the side.

There are pvc flanges with rubber gaskets that are made to go inside and seal, but I doubt you are looking at the right one. Yes, that is a bad idea.

I am actually using PVC flange with rubber gasket.

To be safer, ordered one where the gasket can be expanded to make a tight seal.

Here's a compression flange that can be used with a cast iron closet bend.

Easy way to set up a flange without pouring lead.
