I will be removing my tub and replacing it with a shower, which I will construct. Question is: Is a shower pan required? The new shower base will be below the floor. I am going to use cement and form a new base, then tile that and the shower walls. Nothing below the new shower except for ground.

Cool

You will still need a shower pan.
Check with your local Building Inspector.
Good Luck!

Thanks, Old Man! I was wondering about it becasue it will end up like a sunken tub/shower, though not really a tub.

Cool

Tmac,
I highly recommend a visit to the Ceramic Tile forum and to http://www.johnbridge.com for expert tile advice before beginning your project.
Good Luck!
