how to attach shower drain

I checked the archives but didn't see exactly what I was looking for...
I am replacing the 40 year old fiber-formed (plastic or fiberglass)pan and marlite covered, mudded walls with either a one or two piece shower stall. The drain pipe is cast iron and was sealed to the pan drain flange with what appeared to be melted or pounded lead over some kind of waxy substance. I drilled the lead out and got the old pan out. Now I'm left with the cast-iron pipe coming out of an eight inch (approx.) hole through the slab and it's just about even with the top of the slab. It is not threaded and isn't even cut off nice and square. It looks like it was chewed instead of cut. There doesn't seem to be enough room to dig around the pipe to replace it with abs or anything so I would just rather reuse it. Is there something in particular I can look for at the local Home Depot or plumbing supply for connecting the unthreaded CI to this shower stall? Thank you for your time.

What type of pipe is the drain in the shower? Plastic can easiley be hooked up to ther CI if you have enough room to reach it. Yes they do sell couplers at Home Depot for such things.

Thanks John...
I don't have the shower drain flange yet. That's kinda what I was asking about...
I haven't bought the shower enclosure. Do you think it will come with the drain flange? I figured whatever I needed to adapt the CI to the shower would all be one piece or kit containing the drain flange, pipe and some sort of coupler. I guess I will find out when I get the enclosure, eh?
