What is this pipe most likely leading to?

Obviously nobody will know for sure but just thought I'd ask in case anyone has a thought.

3 inch cast iron pipe in basement floor with an adjacent 1.5 inch cast iron vent, I'm assuming they are connected. Vent leads to rest of DWV sanitary system. Trying to figure out where the 3" pipe leads to. I can't hear water rushing when flushing a toilet and I don't smell sewer gas, rather, it smells like dirt/mud. This pipe is about 10 feet from the main sanitary sewer line in the basement. I found it when doing some demo, it was stuffed with a large tiling sponge. It goes down about 12 inches then turns 90 degrees to horizontal.

Any ideas? Thanks!

In what direction is it going...... outside..... towards the stack.... never never land ?

Looks like it was cut off. Possibly to a septic system outside ?

It's going back towards the horizontal run of the main sewer line in the house. No septic system outside. I'm going to have a plumber scope it to be sure of what it is. Thanks!

My guess would be that it was a rough in for a toilet that was never installed. If its exactly 10" or 12" away from the wall. or maybe a shower or floor drain that just never got used.

Good call - it's 10.5" from the wall. Although not a finished wall, so it wouldn't work for a rough in toilet. It would only be 6.5" from a finished 2x4 wall, assuming 1/2" drywall was used.

If it was a rough-in that never got used, wouldn't sewer gas be coming up?

If it smells like dirt, someone likely put dirt in it. Looks like a duck, talks like a duck, must be a duck.
