Question

Is there some kind of putty, or something, that could be used around a bath tub in place of caulking?

Cool

Tub-and-tile caulking with anti-mildew works for me.
Good Luck!

Once you have cleaned all of the old caulk from around the perimeter where it is clean and dry, then fill the tub with water, now caulk the tub.when it drys release the water this will give you a pre expanded joint that will not pull away.
