sump pump cord splicimg

can we cut the male plug of a sump pump and just hard wire it.

What are you doing with a sump pump that need hard wiring?

What are you hard wiring to?

Typically this is against the electrical code (NEC). It needs to be plugged in, and cutting the plug voids the UL listing.
In most locales, a GFI circuit is required, though some areas have exceptions. Some will also 'miss' that requirement to prevent false trips on a sump pump.

It would be interesting to know why you want to hard wire. What happens when the pump fails? And it will at some point.
