New braided connector won’t thread to shut off valve

We are trying to replace our 40yo dishwasher with a new one. The current line from the shut off valve to the dishwasher is copper pipe and we’re trying to replace it with a 1/2 inch braided compression to valve line (cord). We cannot get the new line to thread onto the shut off valve. I’ve googled everything, removed the rubber thing…it won’t thread!! Is there some sort of adapter I need? Is there a reason this won’t thread?

You are probably trying to put a 1/2" compression connection onto a 3/8" compression fitting. Both ends of the braided need to match the size of the fittings they need to screw onto. You might as well throw that one away if you removed the rubber from one end.

Assuming the other end fits correctly on the dishwasher, you probably just need to get the right one... a 1/2" fip x 3/8" compression braided supply. You also might want to use a wrench instead of a pliers.

You have the wrong size braided hose, You need 1/2 ips x 3/8 compression.

Tried 3/8

Thanks all. We tried 3/8 and it also didn’t thread. We had a plumber come, and he tried that also. Then tried a flare (?). He said he’d never seen this threading before and decided to switch out the valve, which was a good idea considering the fitting was so corroded I’m surprised water got through. Anyway, all fixed. Thanks for the suggestions!

Pliers were for copper

Also, we used a wrench. The pliers were used to attempt to get the copper pipe back on to see if that was an option.

Glad you figured it out. I've never seen anything other than a 3/8" compression. Or the occasional 1/2" compression toilet shutoff, which threw me for a loop the first time I ran across it.
