Sewage Main Leak

I have a tiny leak on to the basement floor from the cast iron main drain exiting through my foundation....roughly at the arrows in the pic.

Even if temporary, is there a way I might seal this? Can I use a silicone or rubber flex sealant specified for wet use?

The cast iron exiting the house, luckily, is Fernco booted to PVC inside the house, and again booted to PVC just outside the foundation below grade. So it would be a short pipe piece if I actually did had to replace it.

But that said I also want an opinion if that cast iron piece, albeit short, may be deteriorating underground?

Sure it's deteriorating. The line thru the wall needs replacement. All you can do now is apply a temporary patch to your current leak. That fitting is rusting thru and that process will continue. You may have to patch again in the near future.

I would use a wire brush to clean the fitting and use two part metal mender like JB Weld or Permatex Steel Weld.

I'd agree with everything Pete said. JB Weld will help short-term, but getting a clean and solid area for it to seal to might be a challenge. Just be gentle with it. The whole fitting won't fall apart, but you can easily make the hole larger.

Since the hole is on the side, a patch should get you a few more years out of it I would be more concerned if it was at the bottom of the pipe. But in the end, that fitting will need to be replaced through the wall.

What about a 2 part Oatey Fix-It Stick epoxy? Would that work? ...................

It looks like it would work too. It looks very similar to the others I mentioned.

It's going to be tough to get something to stick to rusty metal.
Allowing the product to penetrate into the pipe should help hold it in place.

Thanks very much guys. I will let you know results when I get to it. Also...now that you mention all this, in the pic you'll see it looks like something similar was done with adhesive around the clean out collar.
