Water stain on ceiling looks like, Is this a leak and should we be worried?
This is the ceiling in our garage, we’ve just moved to this house for two months. I must admit I’ve not looked at the ceiling there often, but today when I decided to inspect our sewage line in the garage I found out that around this line, which should be the one for our shower, has some kind of stain ring around it (please see the picture. )
wondering if we should be concerned? It’s not wet to the touch though. So might be something other than leak that causes it? Although I’m not sure what else could cause this.
It kind of looks like an old leak that was painted over with latex without using a stain hiding primer.
I'd either clean up the pipe T or paint over it and then see if new leak evidence presents itself.
I also like the trick of adding some pencil marks to show the edges of the current stain. In a few weeks, check back. If it's an old leak, the stains will not have moved.
It was definitely water as you can see the water marks on the tee.
There could be many reasons for the water there. It could have been a one time thing.
Typically if it was a leak and you used that shower... it would get worse.
I'd expect to see more water dripping down the same tee..... probably onto the floor.
If that happens the shower drain is leaking.
Looks like old iron pipe and plaster which means old house and old plumbing.
I want to get this rusty water main (3/4") working so I can shut it off. I thought it was pretty rare that ball valves get stuck? (I am trying to turn it clockwise.)
Anyway, I have tried freeing it with the penetrant spray...soaking it several times, and then light some taps with a hammer. Still won't budge, except to make the tap water brown. Also think the faucet aerators are starting to clog, or perhaps the pipes, which I want to avoid.
Questions--What else can I do? How do I avoid getting sediment in the pipes? (All copper, no galvanized.)
Can I use a torch? If so how and what are my limits with that?
Can I try putting like a pipe extension on the valve lever for more leverage?
Thanks!

I have a low water pressure situation.
It's not at all fixtures and on some fixtures it's more the hot water (the water heater is new.) Example: The bathroom sink cold flow is fine, but the hot is low. (Hot valve is corroded BTW, cold valve seems newer.)
Then at the tub, both are slow...which have 2 old corroded gate valves in the basement.
Pipes are copper about 60 yrs old. The main is a ball valve, which seems to work fine. At this point, I'm thinking it's either clogged valves or clogged fixtures. Does this seem correct? If not, what?
